Let’s Build It

Intros: who are we, and why are we here?

What does the Learning Technology & Innovation team mean by “a project”? How does our team typically prefer to approach them?

What are our intentions for this series?

Proposed sessions:

  • Brainstorming and gathering input for the project, defining purpose
  • Working with WordPress – what is possible?
  • Design consideration – do you need specialized help?
  • Scoping and planning
  • Prototyping, gathering feedback, iteration
  • Review and complete

Types of projects:

Spaces for writing/sharing, for individuals or groups: TRU Digital Detox, Salmon in the Tree, Travel Media, CAISSE

Learning resources/activities: Germ 1111

Presentations of student research: Mirror Mirror: Navigating the Complicated World of Body Image, Jusk Ask: Demystifying Consent, Caregiver Fatigue, Tour Maps

ePortfolios: WordPress ePortfolio Templates, TESL portfolio, Public Relations Stream ePortfolio, Tourism starter and result from Alexis. Boring starter site for artists can lead to wonders from Elizabeth Spike, Sophia Dodic, Carol Scholsar, Ashya Cross, Emily Wood, Lyn Richards, Kelsey B, Kalene Michalovsky, Christyn Rebmann.

Podcasting (though we have a master class for that too): You Got This! Indigenous Podcast Series, Eye on EDI

What might we do? Do you have an idea now?

How do we want this to proceed? Which guests could we bring in?

Does your project need to be WordPress/H5P?

Absolutely not – though WP is a very powerful and flexible platform that we are well-positioned to support. It can also be used as a space to present other types of work — such as videos or a podcast. If your idea involves another tool, we can discuss!

You may want to host a virtual conference, or event. One of participants last year did this: https://geolabsharefair.trubox.ca/

It can even be a vendor project, but if you would like to use that platform in a course, we might use this process to clarify and map out:

  • privacy
  • accessibility
  • pricing
  • sustainability
  • support

What supports will be available?

Thoughts?

Is it reasonable for you to bring a high-level goal and some key objectives to the next meeting? If so we can discuss them next week and work on scoping and planning together.
