LMS, Open Web, or Both?

TRU offers faculty, staff, and students support using Moodle as a learning management software (LMS) platform. But there are other options as well. We also host, on campus-based servers, learning technologies which exist on the open web— that is, websites and other applications which do not require signing in through TRU’s institutional website— such as WordPress publishing, Mattermost chatting, Kumu Wiki for knowledge building and sharing, and others. In this discussion-focused workshop we will explore the affordances, constraints, capabilities, and areas of overlap between and among learning management software applications (LMS) such as Moodle, and applications which exist on the open web— such as WordPress. Examples of TRU faculty, staff, and student WordPress sites will be shared. Participants will have the opportunity to register for WordPress, Mattermost, or other types of accounts, and find out more about the options for support and professional development using these technologies.
