Educational Radio: Podcasting for Teaching and Learning

Podcasting is now mainstream to the point that it has entered the Oxford English Dictionary: “A digital audio file of speech, music, broadcast material, etc., made available on the internet for downloading to a computer or portable media player; a series of such files, new instalments of which can be received by subscribers automatically”. TRU’s Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) hosts an ongoing series of educational podcasts, among dozens of others focused on teaching and learning. Podcasting can provide students and instructors the opportunity to reach a potentially wide audience of listeners and share persistent, immediate audio records of discussions, interviews, and other kinds of content. In this interactive workshop we will explore the “educational podcast” landscape; learn steps involved in recording and sharing audio for a podcast; as well as exploring websites and software commonly associated with podcasting.
